the san francisco art academy (not to be confused with the san francisco institute of art) still has a plethora of two dimensional art though the woman giving the tour admitted that in the next decade the administration will be pushing farther toward three dimensional computer stuff as that is where the industry is headed. they had a very neat illustration program which is what i wanted to enroll in because i want to make childrens books. i would have applied and maybe gotten in if it weren't for the wild tuition (7,000 a semester without boarding). this is the only art school i've ever checked out extensively and actually the reason i lived in san francisco for the last year.
How nice that you want to make children's books! I do as well. Are you interested in writing and illustrating them or just the illustrating? Whatever school I go to I want to get a major in Photography and a minor in Illustration.
i have given up on the idea of art school at present because of the outrageous tuition fees in california (though i'm told they are the same just about everywhere). i will be living in oregon indefinetly starting in august and my friend there is saving money to go to some local oregon art school for photography so maybe things will be a little more hopeful. i want to write and illustrate them because i like writing and i like illustrating. and i have enjoyed childrens books, especially strange and beautiful ones, for a long time. we should make a book through the mail. i will try and start with my next letter and whatever happens from there, well, fate.
That is what I was hoping you would propose. How about this: write a little story and send it to me. I will add and take away as I feel and send it back. Then you will divide it into pages and do basic illustrations. When you send them to me I will add again until it is complete. Viola! I send it back to you once more and it is a swell small-person book.
If it is not too chaotic for you- we can do vice versa at the same time. Do you get what I mean? I do the basic and you do the adding. Then when it is all done we could each have a book the other took part in. To do with what we like.
